Team Profile:

The Cunning Stunts are just one of several teams founded by Tony Woodward, after teamchasing for several seasons he ran the first Cunning Stunts team in 1991. Since teaming up with Emma 'burty' Burton they have progressed, and have run up to three open teams and many teams for other classes too. Regular team members for all Stunts teams are:

Darren Watts's top horse is Sir Jack or 'Nobby' and the pair have been running with the Stunts for several years now, and previously formed part of the Wacky Racers team. Darren is a major part of the Stunts now, his loyalty, determination and desperation to run has even meant a trip the day before an event to pick up another team member so he can run himself! He hails from Lilleshall, possibly from a padded cell although he claims to have a competition livery yard.

Emma Fox and her micro mare 'Lightning' also joined the team in 2012 after a couple of seasons running the Barnsley Babes. Both are short in stature but high in bravery, some might say they are bonkers too! Emma is from Yorkshire and has the longest journey time for most events. We always say the fences look smaller from horseback, I'm not sure Emma can say the same!

Ben Furnival is another new addition to the team and is forming a partnership with Cracker, a talented but tricky customer! Ben also rides in hunter chases and has gained a reputation for his 'stickability' after an awkward jump. He also gets a great tune from Tony Woodward's Tosca, when the boss is out of action.

Sue Tideswell is based near Macclesfield and is often found in the Stunts first team with her outstanding chestnut horse Inch. They have been part of the championships team for the past four years. Inch is an ex racehorse and also competes in RoR classes and county shows.

Tony has ridden several different horses in the open teams since losing the much loved lead horse Duggan in 2009, one of which is the diminutive mare Tosca. She stands at a shade over 15hh but refuses to accept she cannot jump anything in front of her. Ok, so some hedges duck when she head towards them, and others are left reeling when she powers her way through. Little legs often leave her adrift of the leaders but no one can deny her gameness. Scots Grey will be another of his rides during 2013, if Burty hasn't taken him over.

Team names are usually a variety of Stunts, The Cupid Stunts & Stunts That Can't Be Made are two recent one. The latter was in honour of a newly released Marillion album, a band the founders are very taken with. The actual album was Sounds That Can't Be Made.... well it tickled us anyway!

Over the last few years the team has had many 'visiting' team members, some run when other commitments allow, others when they have the horse power. All are made very welcome.
