Main Team Organiser,
Captain & Principal Current Team Members:
Philip Hopkins' father Reg Hopkins of Hopkins motor sport is the teams main organiser of events and entries. He is responsible for all our entries and making sure we get in, in time!! Reg started team chasing in the late 1970's and only stopped two years ago, he has competed at all the team chase courses in the country and is also the chairman and event organiser of the Berkeley team chase.
Philip is lead horse and can be relied on to give us all a confident start and lead through the course, he is both confident fearless and attacking. Philip has been team chasing for several years and is the most experienced member of the team. Philip has just purchased a full thoroughbred from the stables of Henrietta Knight and it is hoped it will be our secret weapon!!
Suze Tucker has only been team chasing at intermediate level for one season, her main passion is hunting with the Berkeley which has given her a good grounding ready for team chasing!! She has two horses and is always the noisy one communicating/shouting between fences!!
Tom Lister had a 25 year gap from riding when he decided he would start hunting 3 sesaons ago and bought a 4 year old standing at a mere 17.2hh (Lizzie). But for lucky Lister it all worked well and he is a popular member of the Berkeley hunt. Tom has a competitive nature and has thoroughly enjoyed team chasing starting last season at Intermediate level.
Our Team Horses
Philip's horse Yorkie is a 10 year old Irish sports horse. He is lead horse and always gives the team a
great start. He is bold and athletic and also a great hunter which is his main job, crossing all of
the famous Berkeley hedges and rheens. Philip has a number of horses between him, his father and brother.
Yorkie is his favourite, however there are others he rides when on different teams.
He is looking forward to riding his new thoroughbred (Airry) too.
Suze's horse Whaty (What a scientist) is a 12 year old tb, a former race horse at chase level he has now retired from his successful racing career. He is owned by the Pinks who have a number of race horses with the prefix 'what a'. He was trained by Sarah Stafford at point to point level and when it was decided he would retire Sarah thought of Suze-much to her delight!! He has taken to team chasing like a dream, and is happy to slot in where needed but will also take the lead, as you would expect from a blood horse he has fantastic pace and scope.
Tom's horse Lakestreet Lizzie is the baby of the team at just 6 years old although certainly not the smallest standing an impressive 17.2hh. She is bred on eventing lines by David Guilding of Lakestreet farm and is 7/8 thoroughbred. Lizzie is a mare with scope to die for, her main job has been a hunter and she certainly has given Tom many a fantastic day, she is both clever and honest soaring over the biggest of timber and flying her hedges, and is much admired in the Berkeley country. But we also must remember she is a chestnut mare!!! She has taken to team chasing brilliantly and has a very laid back nature to it, and is perfect in that she will slot in where ever needed in the team.
